LAMEfest 2013

Review:  LAMEfest 2013 - August 22nd at Brands Park.
The evening started out with a crowd brimming with excitement, ready to kick things off with a righteous showing.  However, from the get-go the participants noticed that the extended lineup caused miscues in organization and slotting.  None of the performers seemed to be able to find there rhythm in this situation and thus, the event suffered from dramatic momentum shifts and general discordance (of note: General Discordance served alongside Major Doodyplay in the battle of 2013).  Local experts noted a lack of comfort with the event's start time and the resulting preparation rush.
The early set harkened to the participant's strength at limiting opposing forces to manageable levels.  Only a few miscues and a single, short, lucky foul note created a margin of error insurmountable given the performer's aforementioned hindrances.
All-in-all, the early show had a parabolic structure.  High notes abounded when in their comfort-zone, playing as a coordinated group, facing down the disorganized assembly of posers that dared approach the tenured skills of the main act.  The normally high-tempo moments of the show, carried usually by the act's male performers was well off key and left this reviewer saddened by their inability to string together anything but a solo performance here and there.
Time is on the side of the first act though.  Elements continue to tighten up and improve as time passes, and there's no doubt that the next time through this town, they'll be prepared to dominate the main stage.

The second act could truly be held responsible for the LAMEfest moniker.  Several gaffes in the early going just dragged the show to a slog.  The performers lost their edge and they were never able to find the whetstone that they desperately needed.  Again, individual performances generated chances at momentum, but no-one was able to take the reigns and bring the crescendo that was desperately anticipated. Post-show interviews revealed an act determined to produce a better product, noting the weak points of the set and vowing to make other acts on the tour schedule take notice.  Don't be surprised to see them making a lot of noise in coming weeks and absolutely blowing the fucking doors off of the next venue they play.

LAMEfest note: for some reason, the festivals logo appeared to be a crudely drawn container filled with male genitalia.  Damned bags of dicks everywhere!
